The Haverhill Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division is committed to providing the highest standard of investigation and specialized services to the citizens of Haverhill. Our goal is to enrich the quality of life for the citizens of Haverhill by providing a community that is safe to live, work and enjoy leisure activities. This is achieved through the identification and deterrence of criminal activity by providing swift, thorough, and proactive investigations while respecting the rights of all citizens. In furtherance of this mission the Criminal Investigations Division maximizes the use of traditional investigative techniques in combination with the most current technological resources available, constant training and professional evidence collection. to accomplish its ultimate goal, the successful response to the needs of the citizens of Haverhill and their safety.
The Criminal Investigations Unit is responsible for investigating and following up on major crimes that are committed within the City of Haverhill. Cases are assigned according to solvability factors, seriousness of the offense and past history. Criminal Investigations Detectives are responsible for crime scene processing, including recovery of latent fingerprints, sketching and photographing scenes as well as recovery and preservation of physical evidence. They gather criminal intelligence, apply for search warrants, arrest warrants, and conduct criminal surveillance as required. The detectives receive significant training and have acquired special skills required to investigate homicides, sex crimes, frauds, robbery, burglary and arson. The detectives also work in close cooperation with all divisions of the Haverhill Police Department as well as with outside law enforcement agencies including, but not limited to, the Massachusetts State Police, the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, Federal Law Enforcement Agencies and other Local Police Departments to accomplish its ultimate goal, the successful response to the needs of the citizens of Haverhill and their safety.
